CMA’s Michelangelo Exhibit: Sketch your heart out.

Adrian Eisenhower at the Cleveland Museum of Art

CMA’s Michelangelo Exhibit

The Sunday before last I was wandering around the Cleveland Museum of Art with my friend Sean. We both wanted to see the Michelangelo exhibit so we went right to that. I was a little upset when I was told I was not allowed to sketch in the exhibit. We finished in the last room looking at replications of some of Michelangelo's work.

The exhibit was actually much smaller than I expected. Still I was happy to be there and ran into a fellow artist who has made appreciates at some of the art groups I have attended such as the Murray Hill Art Group.

Adrian Eisenhower was running a sketching group in the Atrium in a little alcove at the front of the museum. There were easels and wooden horses as well as drawing pads, pencils, erasers and even free sketchbooks! It was great to see both young and old creating works of art in this space. That particular day (Sunday) they were drawing from still life setups. Adrian was able to secure a live model for the following Sunday and I showed up with my own art supplies to join in drawing a Murray Hill favorite model, Yuseff.

To make this event even better the sketch days are free. That's right, they provide everything to draw with (and on) as well at the model or still life subjects for free! I really hope to see the Cleveland Museum of Art do more of these types of events in the future.

You can read an interview with Adrian and find out more about the sketching days which are on Tuesdays and Sundays from 11-3pm until the end of the Michelangelo show in January.
