In March 2017, The School of Social Policy & Practice at the University of Pennsylvania released a study that revealed that low- and middle-income residents with greater access to the arts experience better education, security, and health.

Art House believes that the arts belong to everyone, regardless of background, age, or income. Over the last decade and a half, arts education has been quietly disappearing from school curriculums across the nation due to budget cuts and shifting priorities; poor, inner-city and rural schools bear a disproportionate share of these losses.

Art House seeks to bridge the gap between the desire for robust arts education programming and the reality of public funding through the Urban Bright Arts-In-Education program. Urban Bright is designed to support, enrich and deepen the visual arts curriculum in our schools by providing school-age children with meaningful, hands-on learning experiences with a professional artist. The program focuses on providing services to schools in low-income, underserved communities in Greater Cleveland, Ohio.

Through grant funding, Art House is able to provide the Urban Bright residency programs to individual schools. Art House works with schools to tailor an artist residency appropriate for a specific grade and group of students. The Program Coordinator works collaboratively with teachers, principals, and artists to plan the residency, providing a qualified and professional artist, all supplies, and an agreed upon curriculum, that integrates applicable standards from the Ohio Department of Education.

Our mission is to inspire exploration and expression through the visual arts. By fulfilling this mission, Art House stabilizes our neighborhood and creates opportunities for artists to thrive. By extension, the organization contributes significantly in the creation of Cleveland as a culturally rich and economically viable destination to live, work and raise a family.
