Clay on the Wheel with Gina DeSantis

Relax and sooth your mind by throwing bowls and cups on the pottery wheel. If you are more advanced try plates, lidded vessels or teapots. Classes are small to allow for individual instruction at all skill levels. Become a part of one of the most popular programs at Art House! All clays are food, microwave and dishwasher safe.

Gina DeSantis is a ceramic artist living and working in Lakewood, Ohio. She holds a BFA from Cleveland State University and an MFA in ceramics from Kent State University. Her work revolves around the parallel ideas of making objects by hand and the ritual of their use, focusing on the interaction between objects and their environment. Gina has taught extensively in the Cleveland area to all ages and skill levels.

Introduction to Enameling with Kate Ward Terry

For thousands of years, diverse societies have utilized the fusion of glass to metal, or enameling, to produce beautiful and unique works of art. Learn the fundamental techniques of this ancient art form with Introduction to Enameling, a two-day workshop focusing on copper enameling. Working with opaque and liquid enamels, students will explore techniques such as stenciling, graphite and sgraffito.

Holiday Enameling Workshop with 

Kate Ward Terry

This two day workshop will enable you to create enameled ornaments and/or pendants for a special keepsake. Powdered and liquid enamels will be used on the copper ornaments and pendants.

Printmaking and Watercolor with 

Kate Ward Terry

Using basic printmaking techniques and simple patterned designs, students will create their own fine art prints. Safety-Kut print blocks will be used to carve out designs. The designs will be printed in black onto artist quality printing paper. After the designs dry, watercolor is applied to create a beautiful print. Your print images can also be transferred onto t-shirts, stationary and decorative papers.

Kate Ward Terry holds a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and has exhibited her prints, enamels and drawings throughout the United States and England. She has taught previously at Art House, Inc. and Zygote Press, sharing her belief that every individual possesses a distinct creative ability.

 

Clay Sculpture with Mark Yasenchack

Clay is an incredibly versatile material, encompassing a rich history and a diverse range of applications. In this class, venture beyond the usual pinching, coiling and slab-building by learning new techniques with which to manipulate clay. Beginners will develop strong fundamentals; advanced students will unlock fresh creative possibilities.

Mark Yasenchack, a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College, is an accomplished ceramic artist who has exhibited in galleries across Ohio. In addition to his position as Gallery Manager at River Gallery in Rocky River, Mark is a skilled instructor with teaching experience at Heights Arts, Brecksville Center for the Arts and Cleveland Institute of Art. He draws inspiration for his art from the fine crafts of antiquity, creating ornate and timeless works without artifice.

Mixed Media Drawing (All Ages)

with Melinda Placko

All materials are up for grabs in this all ages class! Empty the supply chest and join us as we draw with a wide variety of dry and wet media. Combinations of charcoal, ink, pencil, gouache and collage will be explored. There will be directed assignments and open drawing time, individual and collaborative drawing experiences and an in-class library. Come and create mixed media collages and practice freedom of material.

Melinda Placko received her BFA in painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art and her MFA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a focus on public and collaborative art. She is co-founder of Melk Truck Studio, and has nearly ten years experience teaching for organizations such as the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Akron Art Museum, YouthBuild Holyoke Massachusetts, Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio, Mycom and the Boys and Girls Club.

Silk Painting Workshops with Peggy Wertheim

Session I: The Joys of Silks and Paints

Discover, enjoy and create fine radiant art on silk. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! An incredible art form where no mistakes can be made. Students will delve into and learn resist application, color blending, salt techniques, color discharge and paint applications to create a silk hoop and a silk scarf or silk painting frame. A myriad of design ideas and reference books will be provided.

Wednesdays, 6:30 - 9:00pm, 3 weeks

Session II: Silk Painting Explorations

These workshops are for new and continuing students. You will be inspired by exciting new techniques! Create silk scarves and/or silk paintings to frame. Design ideas, books and handout packout provided.

Enjoy spending time with your family as you make individual pieces or family art works. Each month has a theme and Art House provides the materials. Make an adventure of it by exploring your imagination and using those creative images to form your art work.

ART HOUSE CLASS REGISTRATION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE CALLING TO REGISTER FOR A CLASS.

ALL TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPLY FOR CREDIT CARD REGISTRATION OVER THE PHONE. PLEASE CONTACT ART HOUSE WITH ANY QUESTIONS.


• All students must register for classes and programs directly with Art House. Full payment must be received at time of registration.
• After the 1st meeting for the class/program full fees are non-refundable except for illness. Refunds due to illness require a letter from a medical provider.
• Art House has the right to cancel classes/programs due to lack of enrollment. Art House will reimburse those students who have paid for classes.
• Art House staff will contact students directly to notify of class cancellation and/or changes due to lack of enrollment.
• 80% of tuition is refundable from time of registration until the 1st meeting of class unless class in cancelled due to lack of enrollment.
• Makeup classes/programs will only be scheduled if a teacher cancels or due to inclement weather.
• In the event of bad weather please contact Art House for information on cancellations. Art House will reschedule any cancelled classes/programs due to bad weather in cooperation with the instructor.
• Students will not be offered make up classes if the student cannot attend.
• You will not be contacted for confirmation prior to class start date.
• Wheelchair accessible entrance and restrooms.
• Parent/Adult Student agrees to permit Art House to use photographs and/or video for public relations and media use related to Art House only.
