Resident Artists

Melissa Daubert’s Resident Artist from Ireland,Grainne Bird, interns for Art House.

Experience artist (and Art House teaching artist) Melissa Daubert, sole proprietor of Interactive Works of Art, started an Artist in Residence Program in 2010. The residency program brings new artists to Cleveland for the Ingenuity Festival of Art and Technology, and served as a mentoring program to help artists through their first big project.

Dauberts hands-on teaching style takes artists through the process of creating, installing and promoting their work. “Working hard, doing research, finding goals, persevering and practice, is what I promote” says Daubert.

Artists who enter Daubert’s residency go through the process of researching and selecting a venue, finding funding, concepting ideas, creating new work, marketing and presenting their work to the public. Daubert refers her artists to many of the local resources available to help artists on their path including: Cleveland Partnership for Arts and Culture, COSE’s ARTIST network, Artist as Entrepreneurs, Where4ARThou® Arts Marketing, Art House and The Foundation Center.

“My goal is to share Cleveland with artists who aren’t from around here and give them a chance to share their work with Cleveland”, say Daubert.

Daubert mentored local artist Walley Two Hawks informally for years and decided last year to invite artist Lynda Abraham from New York City to spend a year in her program. This year she is hosting artist Grainne Bird from Ireland for 6 months. “It brings me great joy to see another artist complete their first commissioned work of art and present it to the public.”
