Born in Pakistan, Adeel uz Zafar completed his BFA from the National College of the Arts. He is a visual artist who has developed a unique photographic technique. His early works involved engraving exposed photographic sheets with a paper cutter. Today Adeel uses plastic vinyl sheets coated with emulsion and acrylic gel scratching in images derived from found objects, typically children’s toys. His dealings with subjects that are related to children have been called terrifying yet amusing and comforting.
Adeel has participated in both national & international artists’ residencies, now including the Cleveland Foundations’ Creative Fusion program. His appearances on Pakistani television led to his inclusion in an exhibition of prominent Pakistani artists from 1990-2010. Recently his work has been shown in New York, Dubai, Hong Kong, and Karachi. Adeel is being hosted this year by the Ingenuity Cleveland.
